If you have ever experienced sciatica you know that it is absolutely excruciating.  Nerve pain of any kind is extremely painful and can take months to truly settle down.

The sciatic nerve is the largest single nerve in the human body; it runs from each side of the lower spine through deep in the buttock into the back of the thigh and all the way down to the foot.

It serves a vital role in connecting the spinal cord with the leg and foot muscles.

Sciatic nerve pain is very common and if is not treated in time, the pain can reach a higher level of intensity which can be completely immobilizing that is why it is recommended to receive treatment sooner rather than later.  I perform acupuncture regularly for sciatica and it works wonderfully.  I find that sciatica usually stems from overwork and weakness in the body causing the discs of the spinal column to become unstable, shift, and ultimately press on the sciatic nerve.  Treatment is necessary to correct all this but sometimes it is impossible to get into the clinic on an emergency basis.

Luckily, there is a natural remedy, garlic milk that can help you to reduce the pain as well the inflammation of sciatica.  This remedy can be prepared at home with things you probably have on hand.

Ingredients:
– 5 cloves garlic

– Honey

– 1 cup almond or rice milk

Preparation:
Remove the peel from the garlic.

Once you have done that you will prepare a garlic puree, mix it with the vegetable milk of your choice and then add the honey.

All this should be mixed well until you get a homogeneous substance.

Use:
This remedy can be taken either cold or hot, and it is advisable to ingest 8 ounces of garlic milk per day. This amount can be divided into two parts.

It is important to know that this treatment does not replace any medicine recommended by a specialist or treatment as it will recur if the cause isn't addressed and remedied.

Garlic milk has a lot of vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C, and minerals like potassium, phosphorus, manganese, calcium, zinc, selenium and copper, plus proteins, flavonoids , enzymes and antioxidants so it helps us treat diseases such as asthma, also controls cough, regulates cholesterol, relieves fatty liver and strengthens our immune system.  Friday, you should receive my special report on how to stave off the flu that is going around.

There are several thousand natural remedies for better sleep and one of the latest discoveries by scientists is pointing to a new cause behind those sleepless nights. People will do almost anything to fall asleep and stay asleep longer since sleep is such an important part of remaining happy and healthy. There are even acupoints which you can press to reduce your anxiety and get you to sleep faster. However, the latest sleep remedy is something even simpler than all of that – a simple Vitamin D supplement could help you get the sleep you need.

Vitamin D is something many of us are lacking. It turns out, according to the latest research that a lack of Vitamin D can cause us to be unable to sleep. Researchers report an Iranian study where scientists found that the use of Vitaman D supplements improved the quality of sleep in the 44 subjects who were given Vitamin D compared to the placebo.

Having a Vitamin D deficiency can be a serious problem for your body. There are several diseases due to vitamin D deficiency. Everyone should pay attention to their Vitamin D levels because they can have such serious implications to your health. There are common signs of vitamin D deficiency that are major warning signs you should get on a supplement immediately. Ideally, you have a blood test to determine your level and dosage needed.

Nearly 50 percent of people don't get enough Vitamin D. A study from 2015 of 3,000 men found that those men with Vitamin D deficiencies were also suffering from poor sleep. Is it possible that your sleepless nights are caused by a deficiency in Vitamin D? If you don't want to take supplements there are a few good ways to get Vitamin D without having to take any pills. Exposure to the sun and Vitamin D fortified milk and orange juice can help with a slight Vitamin D deficiency. Most people require much higher levels than these foods can supply. I do recommend a liquid form for much better absorption.  I prefer this one, myself…GREAT price and FREE shipping!

This just in!  Life expectancy has dropped in the US for the second year in a row.  People in the US have worse health and are dying younger than people in other rich countries.

(CNN)Life expectancy in the United States has dropped again following last year's decline, which marked the first downturn in more than two decades.

On average, Americans can now expect to live 78.6 years, a statistically significant drop of 0.1 year, according to a report on 2016 data published Thursday by the National Center for Health Statistics. Women can now expect to live a full five years longer than men: 81.1 years vs. 76.1 years.

"I still don't think you can call it a trend, because you really need more than two data points to call something a trend," said Bob Anderson, chief of the mortality statistics branch at the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "But it's certainly concerning to see this two years in a row."

Anderson said he is particularly concerned about drug overdose deaths, most of which are opioid-related.

"We have data for almost half of 2017 at this point. It's still quite provisional, but it suggests that we're in for another increase" in drug-related deaths, he said. "If we're not careful, we could end up with declining life expectancy for three years in a row, which we haven't seen since the Spanish flu, 100 years ago."

The 10 leading causes of death remain unchanged and now account for 74.1% of all deaths in the United States, according to the report. Age-adjusted death rates decreased for seven of the top 10 leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, and kidney disease. The rates increased for unintentional injuries, Alzheimer's disease and suicide.

Unintentional injuries include accidental drug overdoses, which were the official cause of 63,600 deaths last year.

"It just keeps going up and up and appears to be accelerating," Anderson said.  "In the past, those increases have been more than completely offset by declines in cardiovascular mortality," such as heart disease and stroke, he said. "What's happened in recent years, since about 2010 or so, is a substantial slowdown in the rate of decline for cardiovascular mortality. It seems to be leveling off to some extent, and as a result, the drug overdose deaths are more prominent in the overall picture of mortality."

AntiOxidant fromAntiAging Matters

This just in! A new study clearly shows a therapeutic role for a new antioxidant called SkQ1 and SkQ1- new compounds in mitochondrial diseases such as aging.

This study also demonstrates new evidence for  the ROS (reactive oxygen species) hypothesis of aging:“A classical hypothesis for aging was that mitochondrial cellular damage would result in increased ROS (reactive oxygen species ) production that in its turn would increase mitochondrial oxidative damage that then in a deleterious cycle, would augment itself. However, this idea has lost general acceptance in recent years. A not insignificant reason for this has been reports from studies of the mtDNA mutator mice that the mitochondria seemingly do not display enhanced ROS production or enhanced oxidative damage. However, studies such as the present one do imply that oxidative damage may be important for the aging characteristics observed, at least in the mtDNA mutator mice, and these studies may thus resurrect the ROS hypothesis for aging. They found increased longevity in the SkQ1-treated mtDNA mutator mice. Although these mice may correctly be considered an artificial model, the marked effects of SkQ1 treatment would imply that counteracting ROS damage could be one factor leading to prolonged life. There are indeed indications that treatment with targeted antioxidants such as SkQ1 not only are effective against specified diseases or in artificial models but may also prolong lifespan in general, in wild-type animals”. This has been conducted in lab animals and dogs.

The takeaway in this not easy to understand preclinical paper is yes, a new compound will be coming on the market soon after clinical studies in humans are conducted by Professor Skulachev in Moscow. The scientist reports that he has successfully tested the anti-aging compound on himself and hopes to make it available to the public within the next two years. Skulachev's new anti-aging compound has already undergone substantial animal testing and is now in the first stages of a clinical trial on humans at Moscow State University.

If you are one of these folks, you are likely to use Facebook more frequently and intensely than others. New research in Heliyon reveals that these people see and treat their Facebook friends as "digital objects," and have significantly more friends than others…. It also shows that these people have a greater need to compare themselves to others on Facebook.

This new study reveals that materialistic people use Facebook to both achieve their goals and feel good. The authors of the paper, from the Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany, have developed a new theory to explain this: The Social Online Self-Regulation Theory.

"Materialistic people use Facebook more frequently because they tend to objectify their Facebook friends -- they acquire Facebook friends to increase their possession," said lead author Phillip Ozimek. "Facebook provides the perfect platform for social comparisons, with millions of profiles and information about people. And it's free -- materialists love tools that do not cost money!"

The researchers first conducted an online questionnaire with 242 Facebook users. The questionnaire asked participants to rate their agreement with statements in order to calculate their Facebook activity (such as "I'm posting photographs"), social comparison orientation ("I often compare how I am doing socially"), materialism ("My life would be better if I owned certain things I don't have"), objectification of Facebook friends ("Having many Facebook friends contributes more success in my personal and professional life") and instrumentalization of Facebook friends ("To what extent do you think Facebook friends are useful in order to attain your goals?").

The results suggested that the link between materialism and Facebook activity can be partly explained by materialists displaying a stronger social comparison orientation, having more Facebook friends, and objectifying and instrumentalizing their friends more intensely.

The authors replicated the approach with a separate sample of 289 Facebook users, containing fewer students and more males than the first sample, and they reached the same conclusions. The Social Online Self-Regulation Theory they developed extends this further, saying that social media is a tool for achieving important goals in life. For materialists, Facebook is a tool to learn how far away they are from their goal to become wealthy.

The researchers emphasize that their results should not cast social media in a negative light; instead, they assume people use platforms like Facebook to feel good, have fun and achieve their goals.

"Social media platforms are not that different from other activities in life -- they are functional tools for people who want to attain goals in life, and some might have negative consequences for them or society," Ozimek explained. "We found that materialists instrumentalize their friends, but they also attain their goal to compare themselves to others. It seems to us that Facebook is like a knife: it can be used for preparing yummy food or it can be used for hurting a person. In a way, our model provides a more neutral perspective on social media." obesity death

The harmful effects of being overweight have been underestimated, according to a new study that analysed body mass index (BMI), health and mortality data in  60,000 parents and their children, to establish how obesity actually influences risk of death.

The University of Bristol study is published in the International Journal of Epidemiology (Dec. 1).

Previous studies have suggested that the optimum BMI, at which the risk of death is minimized, appear to be above the range normally recommended by doctors, leading to claims it is good for health to be mildly overweight. However, scientists suspect these studies do not reflect the true effect of BMI on health, because early stages of illness, health-damaging behaviours, such as cigarette smoking, and other factors can lead to both lower BMI and increased risk of death. This makes it difficult to estimate how BMI actually influences risk of death (the causal effect), as opposed to the observed association between BMI and risk of death. This aim of this study was to assess the causal link between BMI and risk of death.

Using HUNT, a Norwegian population-based health cohort study based in a rural county with 130,000 residents, the Bristol Medical School team, with co-workers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, were able to see how mortality in the parents related to both their own BMI (the conventional approach) and to the BMI of their adult children. Because BMI of parents and their offspring is related, due to genetic factors, offspring BMI is an indicator of the BMI of the parents. The BMI of adult children is not influenced by illness among the parents, therefore using offspring BMI avoids the problems inherent in simply relating the BMI of the parents to their risk of death.

The health records of around 30,000 mother and child pairs and 30,000 father and child pairs were assessed to examine the extent to which BMI may influence mortality risk in a situation that is not biased by "reverse causation" -- illness leading to low BMI rather than BMI influencing illness.

The team found that when offspring BMI was used instead of the parent's own BMI, the apparent harmful effects of low BMI were reduced and the harmful effects of high BMI were greater than those found in the conventional analyses. Importantly, the results suggest that previous studies have underestimated the harmful effects of being overweight.

The current advice from doctors to maintain a BMI of between 18.5 and 25 is supported by this study, and the widely reported suggestion that being overweight may be healthy is shown to be incorrect.

Dr David Carslake, the study's lead author and Senior Research Associate from the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol, said: "An alarming increase in obesity levels across the world which have risen from 105 million in 1975 to 641 million in 2014, according to a recent Lancet study, create concern about the implications for public health.

"This study demonstrates that correlation is not causation and that when it comes to public health recommendations we need to be cautious interpreting data based on associations alone. We found that previous studies have underestimated the impact of being overweight on mortality and our findings support current advice to maintain a BMI of between 18.5 and 25."

Professor George Davey Smith, Director of the MRC IEU and Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Bristol, added: "We are used to seeing conflicting studies purporting to show that something is either good or bad for our health. These generally come from naïve observational studies, which can produce seriously misleading findings. More robust approaches for identifying the causal effects of factors influencing health, such as the methods applied in this study, are required if we are to make recommendations for public health based on reliable evidence."

Drinking water for 15 million Americans in 27 states is contaminated with a toxic chemical that was used to make nonstick cookware, according to a new report released Thursday.

These chemicals, known as PFCs (perfluorochemicals), have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease and weakened immune systems. Even small concentrations in drinking water is considered a threat to public health, according to the report by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group and Northeastern University.

“It's remarkable that the richest country on Earth can't guarantee its citizens that their drinking water is completely safe and has no long-term health implications,” said Bill Walker, managing editor of the EWG in a press release.

Because PFCs have waterproof and nonstick properties, they were formerly used in hundreds of consumer products, “including cookware, outdoor clothing, food packaging and firefighting foam,” reports the EWG.

The EWG and Northeastern University created an interactive map combining data from the EPA and information from all publicly documented cases of PFC pollution coming from manufacturing plants, military airbases, civilian airports and fire training sites.

Although there is growing evidence of the health hazards of PFCs, there are currently no federal health regulations for these chemicals in drinking water. It has been 25 years since the EPA has added a new drinking water contaminant to the Safe Drinking Water Act.

It is time for us to hold our government accountible for the safety of our air, water and soil. We deserve much better!

There's an important link between this one element and 40 percent of all the cancers diagnosed in the United States, health officials reported recently.   Two thirds of all Americans may be at risk...

That doesn't mean this new developement is causing all these cancer cases, just that there's some kind of still-to-be explained link, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Still, the study findings suggest that being obese or overweight was associated with cancer cases involving more than 630,000 Americans in 2014, and this includes 13 different types of cancer.

"That obesity and overweight are affecting cancers may be surprising to many Americans. The awareness of some cancers being associated with obesity and overweight is not yet widespread," Dr. Anne Schuchat, CDC deputy director, said during a midday media briefing.

The 13 cancers include: brain cancer; multiple myeloma; cancer of the esophagus; postmenopausal breast cancer; cancers of the thyroid, gallbladder, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, ovaries, uterus and colon, the researchers said.

Speaking at the news conference, Dr. Lisa Richardson, director of CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, said early evidence indicates that losing weight can lower the risk for some cancers.

According to the new report from the CDC and the U.S. National Cancer Institute, these 13 obesity-related cancers made up about 40 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States in 2014.

Although the rate of new cancer cases has decreased since the 1990s, increases in overweight and obesity-related cancers are likely slowing this progress, the researchers said.

Of the 630,000 Americans diagnosed with a cancer associated with overweight or obesity in 2014, about two out of three occurred in adults aged 50 to 74, the researchers found.

Excluding colon cancer, the rate of obesity-related cancer increased by 7 percent between 2005 and 2014. During the same time, rates of non-obesity-related cancers dropped, the findings showed.

In 2013-2014, about two out of three American adults were overweight or obese, according to the report.

For the study, researchers analyzed 2014 cancer data from the United States Cancer Statistics report and data from 2005 to 2014.

Key findings include:

  • Of all cancers, 55 percent in women and 24 percent in men were associated with overweight and obesity.
  • Blacks and whites had higher rates of weight-related cancer than other racial or ethnic groups.
  • Black men and American Indian/Alaska Native men had higher rates of cancer than white men.
  • Cancers linked to obesity increased 7 percent between 2005 and 2014, but colon cancer decreased 23 percent. Screening for colon cancer is most likely the reason for that cancer's continued decline, Schuchat said.
  • Cancers not linked to obesity dropped 13 percent.
  • Except for colon cancer, cancers tied to overweight and obesity increased among those younger than 75.

The new report was published online Oct. 3 in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Dr. Farhad Islami is strategic director of cancer surveillance research for the American Cancer Society.

He said it's "important to note that only a fraction of the cancers included in the calculation in this report are actually caused by excess body weight."

According to Islami, "many are attributable to other known risk factors, like smoking, while for many others, the cause is unknown. Obesity is more strongly associated with some cancers than others."

The World Cancer Research Fund estimates that "20 percent of all cancers in the United States are caused by a combination of excess body weight, physical inactivity, excess alcohol, and poor nutrition. The American Cancer Society is currently doing its own extensive calculation of the numbers and proportions of cancer cases attributable to excess body weight, the results of which will be published soon," he said.

My take is that being overweight is one of the unhealthiest choices people can make.  Decide to eliminate this health risk NOW. If you need assistance please contact us at 847-577-4455. Very few individuals have rich thick hair well into their senior years. Much science points to the decrease in natural hormones. Hair retention is most certainly controlled by your individual genetics, however there are other conditions that may influence the overall health of your hair. Your diet, the weather, toxins, pollution, and your overall approach to hair care influence your hair retention and health.

1.       Protein is not only a key ingredient to hair itself, but also as a progenitor of hair. Deficient protein in the diet can result in loss of hair, brittle or fragile hair, and loss of hair color. At least 45 grams of protein daily should be included in your diet: eggs, fish, lean meat, poultry, beans, tofu, dairy products.  Please note that many individuals need far more than this…

1.       Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss. Multivitamin or zinc supplements can go a long way to restore what it needs. Foods that are rich in Zink are:

  • Nuts: almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, and walnuts,
  • vegetables
  • fruits
  • leafy green salads
  • plenty of clean, filtered water

1.       Omega 3 Fatty Acids stimulate hair follicles growth and the sebaceous (fat) glands around them. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in:

  • flax seed
  • cold-water fish, such as salmon, sardines, and herring
  • yogurt
  • cottage cheese

1.       Laser and light therapy: Although the science is light and treatment regimens vary widely, many thousands of people are treated every year with varying degrees of success.

1.       Pills and potions flood the market-place, each one claiming success. “Buyer beware” comes into place here, look for real research, not just testimonials.  I have had success with several products and some Chinese Herbs to restore hair. In Chinese medicine, hair is linked to the health of the kidney. This is the root of the physical body.  Here are some products that I recommend though it will take a minimum of three months to note any changes:

Viviscal ,Pro  Hair Skin Nails, Alopecia Pills-FREE Shipping

1.       Shampoo: How often to shampoo your hair varies greatly; it depends upon your hair type and texture, activities in which you participate, and how often you use hair products. Oily hair requires more frequent washing and dry hair mandates less frequent washing. One must buy the right product for their own hair: curly, dry, oily, straight, artificially colored, bleached, etc. … Check the labels on the bottle, the formations do not vary much, but the ingredients in the better brands do seem to make a difference. Avoid shampoos with harsh ingredients, such as ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate. Experts suggest that one can over-shampoo or shampoo incorrectly. The standard rules of thumb are:

  • Avoid using very hot or very cold water
  • wash your hair more than once a day.
  • Use only enough of the product to cover your hair.
  • Hair is three times more susceptible to breakage when wet, so don't dry vigorously with the towel.
  • Wait till almost dry before brushing or combing, preferably with a wide-tooth comb to detangle.

Other nutrient deficiencies and some illnesses such as hypothyroidism and anemias  can cause hair loss.  If you notice hair loss that is inexplicable come in for an evaluation or see your health provider.

1.       Conditioning: Experts seem to agree that conditioning your hair after shampooing keeps your hair softer, shiny, and manageable. They may disagree, however, as to whether a shampoo with built-in conditioner is as good as a separate one, and whether you should condition after every shampoo.

1.       Hair maintenance tips:

  • Get regular haircuts (every 10 to 12 weeks) keeps hair healthier and prevents split ends
  • Air drying is better than hair dryers
  • When using a hair dryer, start on low heat, avoid high heat for prolonged periods of time if possible
  • Change locations of hair pins and clips to avoid localized breakage
  • If you dye your hair, choose a shade that's within three shades of your natural color.
  • Avoid frequent hair color changes and stripping
  • Scalp massage increases blood circulation and may promote hair growth, as may essential oil therapy.

1.       Diet and exercise:

·         Heating a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables gives your hair all the essential nutrients – vitamins and minerals – to get healthy and stay that way

·         Things to avoid for healthier hair:

  • overconsumption of alcohol
  • low-calorie and crash diets
  • decreased thyroid hormone
  •  excessive stress

1.       Detoxification, if started early enough may make a difference to people who have been exposed to toxins and heavy metals. Blood and hair testing can reveal many surprises and therefore require many different solutions to detoxification and treatment which may lead to healthier thicker hair. Our TMA test is the best there is...

Essential groups of bacteria are found less frequently and appear to be less diverse in the gut of patients with heart failure.

The gut flora in these individuals' stomachs is also less diverse than those found in the guts of healthy people. Data procured by German Centre for Cardiovascular Research scientists identified important aspects to help the medical community determine how gut colonization is tied to the development and onset of heart failure.

The Link Between Gut Health and Heart Failure:Scientists have long known that gut health and heart failure are connected. When heart failure occurs, the gut has a lower quality blood supply. The intestinal wall has more girth and is more permeable, allowing bacteria and other harmful components to seep into the blood. Scientists have also determined the composition of the gut bacteria is changed in an array of diseases such as type 2 diabetes. This information served as the foundation for the research conducted by scientists at the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research. This group studied whether and how gut flora alters in the stomachs of individuals who suffer from heart failure. How the Study was Conducted:The research group studied the gut bacteria in stool samples of healthy people as well as those who suffer from heart failure. The project was spearheaded by University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein Professor Norbert Frey. Professor Andre Franke's research team from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel also contributed. They determined portions of the bacterial genome deciphered the differences in the microorganism. They also found a substantially lower proportion of different types of bacteria are present in the guts of patients who suffer from heart failure compared to the stomachs of healthy individuals. There is a reduction in individual families of bacteria that are particularly important. However, the researchers are uncertain as to whether gut flora is changed as a result of an individual's heart failure or if it is a cause of heart failure.

Important Factors That Alter the Health of Gut Bacteria: Gut bacteria is affected by an array of factors. As an example, a vegan who begins consuming meat will experience changes to his gut flora in about three days. This is precisely why those with extreme diets such as veganism, were not permitted to engage in the study. Rather, the researchers selected those with a standard diet made up of vegetables as well as meat.Aside from diet, gut flora is also impacted by medication. The study's control group took the same medicines as the patients who suffer from heart failure. Patients were not permitted to consume antibiotics. Those who took antibiotics in the three months prior to the study were not allowed to participate. Smokers were included in each of the groups. Each study participant was from the same geographic area and of similar age.

Cause or Consequence?

The reduction in families and genera of bacteria is indicative of heart failure. This is precisely why the study's results might spur new branches of departure for forms of therapy. The differences between individuals with heart failure and healthy people were spurred primarily by the loss of bacteria of genera known as Collinsella and Blautia. The differences also came about with the loss of two previously unidentified genera belonging to the families of Ruminococcaceae and Erysipelotrichaceae.

Additional research projects have shown the presence of Blautia offsets inflammation. The genus Faecalibacterium is tied to anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Yet the reduction is limited to patients who have heart failure. There is a theory that the gut flora allows for systemic inflammation as chronic inflammation accompanies heart failure. Perhaps an altered bacterial profile heightens the risk for heart failure.  More is being discovered daily about the role of gut bacteria and our lifelong health status.
