Wow, people do seem to enjoy getting tested medically or quasi medically.  They seem to relish the whole scientific method, forming a hypothesis, the testing process, getting a "working"  diagnosis and the like.  In fact, hundreds of  billions of dollars are spent on medical and alternative medical tests each year.

As any good clinician knows, a lot of testing is unnecessary.  A good history, exam, and eyeballing the client will lead to the proper conclusion over 90% of the time.  But people do love their tests.  I see many new clients who bring in a sheaf of papers of "screening" alternative tests:  allergy testing medical and alternative, adrenal profiles, hormone panels, candida antigens and no one has any idea what to do with them until they get to me and we get to work. On occasion, even conventional medical tests like the PSA for men are called into question.  In addition, even the very best of tests are only about 75-80% accurate, so it is important to choose a practioner with great clinical skills.  Some tests are downright quackery and live cell microscopy may fall into this category.

People are impressed with the images of their blood on a darkfield microscope and are given health and nutritional advice based on these images.   Often this advice is alarmingly similar, I've discovered.  Some of the "findings"  I've been hearing about are:

  • Excess protein in the blood
  • Fermenting RBC's caused by mold or yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial mold toxicity
  • Basophiles in the RBC's due to latent allergies
  • Crystals in the blood due to excess proteins or leaky gut
  • Toxic infection of the RBC's
Unfortunately, none of these "findings" has any basis in fact or real science according to microbiology experts.  See quackwatch.com for details about this testing.
Upon the patient's findings, interventions such as expensive detox or cleansing programs are employed.  They may or may not involve colon hydrotherapy.  Expensive supplements are prescribed and people are asked to return frequently for updated testing and supplements.  Sometimes their symptoms improve for a couple of weeks due to the placebo effect but in time this wears off and the client is no better off and his wallet lighter.

When I was training in acupuncture in China we shared this anecdote.  If a westerner opened a clinic in China and gave the same exact antibiotic treatment to each person a few patients might be helped.  If an easterner opened a clinic here and gave the same chinese herbs to each patient a few people would be helped but most would not be.  There are two concerns with this testing: number one, people delay real exploration and treatment and get worse, they ignore important symptoms requiring medical treatment and get worse, AND they tend to become dismissive towards alternative medicine due to these experiences.

My advice?  Seek a reputable practitioner with a solid reputation in alternative care.  An ND or nutritionist has solid western training and knows when to refer out and also will have higher standards regarding testing using hopefully the scientific method AND experience to make clinical judgements.  Clients: STOP wasting your time and money chasing your symptoms for entertainment sake and sit down, commit and WORK with someone reputable. We offer a full range of functional testing right here at our store!

In the final analysis, that is the only way I know to REALLY improve your health.  Special GLUTEN report on Friday!

Albert Einstein is widely credited with the statement that if the honeybee were to become extinct, mankind would only survive  for four years.

CCD,  What is Colony Collapse Disorder?
Scientists and beekeepers have been baffled by Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) which is characterized by the sudden disappearance of the hive's worker population.

According to the USDA, Symptoms of CCD include few or no adult honeybees present, honey and immature bees (broods) remain present in the hive suggesting a sudden abandonment of the hive--a possible response to stress. However, the bees are never found elsewhere, they simply disappear and die. Usually, the queen bee is left behind but dies without establishing a new population.

The disorder has significantly affected bee populations since the 1970s with a sharp increase in losses since 2006. The 2013 year now marks the highest loss on record with at least 50 percent of all European honeybees in the U.S. reported lost to CCD. The attrition rate for honeybee hives is normally around 5 to 10 percent per year. After 2006, that rate increased to about one third. This year, it is one half.

That one-half figure is a critical point beyond which many beekeepers think Food availability and prices will be affected.

Bees are important because they pollinate most of the fruit and vegetable supply in the United States. They also produce honey, which is still widely consumed as a sweetener on bread and in a variety of other products.

What's killing the bees?

Scientists admist it remains a mystery but beekeepers are devastated,  approaching their hives to find hundreds of worker bees dying outside the hives each day. As the bees die, farmers lose the ability to pollinate crops, reducing yields and thereby the food supply. Farmers are now projecting that the decrease in the supply of fruits and vegetables will be so great that prices will be impacted by the summer of this year.

A number of beekeepers blame pesticides for the loss of their bees, specifically as class known as neonicotinoids. Neonicotinoids are a form of pesticide that work by blocking the nerve endings in insects, paralyzing them so that they die slowly by starvation. Beekeepers think their bees are being exposed to the pesticides and are dying as a result.  Another Hypothesis is GMO corn which is causing an intestinal disorder causing the massive die off.  Europe has already banned the use of neonicotinoids in a summit recently.  Organic farmers and gardeners have NOT seen evidence of this die off, interestingly.  Most scientists believe a collage of environmental factors are responsible for the demise.

Research done one dead bees confirms the pesticide is occasionally present.
This has prompted beekeepers to work together to sue the EPA for failing to ban neonicotinoids.

Others still think the causes could be more complex, a combination of natural and man-made, even cell phone towers which are contributing to stress and  the extreme mortality rate.

What researchers have widely observed is that bees are being exposed to a wider variety of chemicals in the environment that previously supposed. A virtual cocktail of pesticides and chemicals could be contributing to their demise.

Other research has looked into the possibility of diseases such as parasites or viruses, but no single factor has demonstrated the lethality that beekeepers are reporting.

Although the cause remains inconclusive, the effects are now beyond question. The dramatic reduction in honeybee population means fewer crops will be pollinated and farmers will pay more for their beehives. That means less food and higher costs for fruits and vegetables later in the year.

And to look deeper, Could not the honeybee be a canary in the mine, heralding disaster for all of us environmentally?

PLEASE support organic farming and NON-GMO foods by buying these foods.  Contact the Environmental protection agency and ask them to ban neonicotinoids and protect the health of the environment and food supply.

  Sugar blues?

How Sweet it... Isn't

Are any sugar replacers safe?  How bad is sugar exactly?  Seems like this is a good time to

probe that subject.  At the heart of the matter is Splenda, the leader in calorie-free sweeteners.  Its seemingly overnight success has made Splenda the number one branded artificial sweetener in the country.  It was actually under development when I was still a graduate student, in 1996.  Splenda can be found in over 3,500 products and over 80 countries.  Despite its widestream popularity, some controversy has arisen.  What is Splenda exactly, and is it safe?

At it's forefront in controversy is Johnson & Johnson...with one of the most successful marketing campaigns..EVER.  "Tastes like sugar because it's made from sugar".....HMMM.....let's see.

A quick visit to Johnson & Johnson's website is all it takes to recognize that Splenda is NOT natural and certainly no longer SUGAR.

Splenda is a synthesized CHEMICAL.  Starting with a molecule of sugar, with three hydroxyl groups, which are atoms composed of hydrogen and oxygen, the three hydroxl groups are removed and replaced with.....Okay now are you ready for this???????????  CHLORINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This chlorination process is what makes Splenda indigestible, by the time this chemical sleight of hand has been carried out Splenda is a Chlorocarbon..Many well known chlorocarbons exist, and I do not think for a moment that one has any place in the human diet, as they are extremely toxic.  Some infamous chlorocarbons are: DDT and Lindane. Lindane is widely used for killing lice.

What about research?  Not ONE single long-term research study has ever been conducted on Splenda, other than the one that is being conducted on the public right now.  In the following chart, I have listed some natural sweeteners for your consideration.  Please recognize though that even all-natural sweeteners will wreck havoc on your body if not used in moderation.   As far as I am concerned, I would like to see all artificial sweetners, as well as high fructose corn syrup banned from use on this planet.  Following are some healthier sugar replacers, and I have one chinese one right here which doesn't raise blood sugars, lead to weight gain, or cause any health problems.

Is it possible to go "chemical free"???

 Photo:Source, Wildaboutgardens.Org

For most of you readers, sadly, probably not.  Most people seem to value convenience, cheapness and ease over either their health or that of the planet.  Still, it can be done.  I have done it for quite awhile now and believe it is worth the investment without question.  Here are some tips if you'd like to try it.  How Toxic are you?  Check here!

In Food – Most of the foods we buy have been sprayed with toxic chemicals during their growing season and before and after storage and transportation.

To limit the chemicals we consume try to buy organic and locally grown food. This reduces the need for spraying and also long term storage. Avoid these hellish ingredients:

1. Pesticides

Used to raise and treat produce and other products, these poisons often leave behind residues. They've been linked to everything from cancer to birth defects.

Solution: Organic foods are required to be synthetic pesticide-free.

2. BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) & BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene)

These common processed food preservatives have been declared carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. They're also accused of disrupting hormones and impacting male fertility.

Solution: Check ingredient lists to avoid.

3. Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH/rBST)

Given to cows to increase milk production, rGBH produces elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in dairy products. IGF-1 is a significant factor in breast, prostate and colon cancers.

Solution: Choose organic or rBGH-free dairy products.

4. Sodium Aluminum Sulphate and Potassium Aluminum Sulphate

Used in processed cheese products, baked goods, and microwave popcorn, among other packaged goods, these ingredients are linked to adverse reproductive, neurological, behavioral, and developmental effects.

Solution: Read ingredient lists to avoid this toxin.

5. Bisphenol-A (BPA)

Found in food and beverage can linings, this hormone-mimicker is suspected of promoting breast and prostate cancer, reproductive and behavioral problems, obesity, and diabetes.

Solution: Avoid canned foods. Choose fresh, dried, or frozen instead.

6. Sodium Nitrite/Nitrate

Used in deli foods like processed meats, these preservatives are linked to many types of cancer. Beware of “uncured” and “no added nitrites/nitrates” products. They often use celery juice instead, which is high in nitrates.

Solution: Read ingredient lists to avoid this toxin.

7. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

These carcinogens are created when fat is burned—by flames or very high heat.

Solution: Pre-cook grillables and finish over low flame.

8. Heterocyclic Amines

These carcinogens form when natural substances found in meats and fish react together in high temperatures like those found during grilling.

Solution: Pre-cook grillables and finish over low flame.

9. Acrylamide

Formed by cooking or frying starchy foods like potatoes and grains at high temperatures, acrylamide is a carcinogen.

Solution: Avoid fried foods, snack chips, crackers, toasted cereals, cookies, and bread crusts.

10. Brominated Vegetable Oil

Used in fruit-flavored drinks and sodas, animal studies found high doses of this toxin led to reproductive and behavioral problems.

Solution: Check ingredients listings.

11. Artificial Food Coloring/Dyes

These ubiquitous chemicals have been linked to neurological disorders like ADHD. Solution: Read ingredient lists to avoid.

12. Dioxins

These highly toxic pollutants accumulate in fatty foods and are linked to cancer, liver damage, birth defects, and endocrine and immune disruption.

Solution: Choose low- or no-fat foods.

13. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)

Found in about 70 percent of processed foods with corn-, soy-, cottonseed-, canola-, and sugar beet-based ingredients, GMOs may cause organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility.

Solution: Go organic! GMOs aren't allowed in certified organic foods. And they aren't ever labeled, making them difficult to avoid in non-organic foods.

Where possible grow your own, especially foods you use the mostAnyone can have a small herb or sprout garden.  I am considering adding a greenhouse to my home.  By eating some organic, pesticide-free food you will be making a huge positive impact on your health and the environment. If you can't buy spray-free produce then make sure you vegi wash  or rinse everything with purified water  before it's eaten.

Our Exterior Bodies – Our skin is our body's largest organ, yet we cover it and fill it with toxic substances on a daily basis. This is NOT sustainable for our internal systems. Many health problems and diseases are the effect of too many synthetic and chemical products put on or into our bodies. I have launched my Beautiful Skin Boutique,  category of my store which offers only the Purest, SAFEST products available today.

The following items I believe should be limited in use and should come with a warning (maybe some do !!!) Synthetic skin care and beauty products, sun-block I almost died four years ago from using a popular sunscreen, and insect repellent.  Medications (long term use is harmful, not healing), sports and energy drinks are on the increase and many people are consuming these too often. Sports drinks contain many artificial and synthetic ingredients that can affect liver, kidneys and other internal organs, especially if consumed when exercising or dehydrated.  Try using fresh orange juice in water to hydrate your body during and after exercise. It will also assist in cleansing your system of impurities.  After starting an organic foods diet it may be time for a short cleanse....these are some great products!  Take advantage of our GREAT discount programs and free shipping!

Your Home

Take a scan of your home. What cleaning products do you have in the kitchen, bathroom, garage? Did you know that we breathe the fumes of bleach even if it's in a cabinet in another room? The green cleaners out there work just as good as the bad guys without all of the toxic fumes. Coming soon are articles on how to make your own cleaners using simple ingredients.

*Filters. They say that the air in our home is more toxic than the air outside. Why? Our furniture, paint, flooring, etc. emit fumes into the air. Try and keep the windows open to allow the air to circulate. An air filter that uses a Hepa filter will clean and purify your air, which is a must-have for children with respiratory issues. When we bathe, our skin, which is our largest organ, absorbs all of the toxic chemicals that is in our water. You can get an inexpensive filter at Lowes that will attach to your shower head.

Some of you are beginning to order online and take advantage of the great products, FAST shipping and DISCOUNTS....Thank you.  We appreciate it.  I am working daily at streamlining our store, categories, cross referencing etc to make it easier for you to use.  Users will also receive rewards bonuses in addition to what is there so remember:

One GREAT product that helps remove chemicals internally is:YES Drops

Most people recognize obvious sources of stress here are hidden sources you may not even be aware of...

*Our own distorted thoughts and attitudes can turn on plenty of stress and stressful emotions. Often folks don't notice they are looking at the world through negative thoughts which are making their world tense and stressful.  See our article:  How does negativity affect your health here:

*Many people greatly stress themselves by failing to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep per day.  This turns on stress and inflammation.  A routine is vitally important to physical and emotional health and is far less stressful than chaos.

*Our diets can be great stress and inflammation makers.  Too many simple carbs, processed foods, sugar, and fats can bring on stress and inflammation.  Eating well from a wide variety
of healthy fats like Omega 3's, veggies, fruits, nuts, grains, and proteins can reduce the hidden stress of poor eating habits.

*Not taking the time to relax can increase stress.  See our relaxation methods the Longevity Maneuver and the the Dive Reflex Manuever for potent ways to stimulate the vagus nerve and turn on natural relaxation.

*Not getting enough exercise leads to higher stress.  Aerobic exercise and strength training both help stress proof us.

*Overwork.   In the US people seem to work too much. I am surprised and dismayed at the number of people who contact me on my days off and personal time.  Keep to your work schedule.

*Limit time spent with technology and heaven forbid...media  enough said.

*Take care of your emotional life. Do emotional writing,  meditate, spend time with nature, rockclimb, beach ealk,  do yoga whatever works for you.

*Exercise reduces stress. Walking and other forms of aerobic exercise are winners. Use high intensity interval training for short periods. Avoid "over-exercise" or exercising past your ability to recover.

*Enjoy pleasurable activities and humor.

*Stay in connection with your friends and have long chats.

*Avoid smoking/nicotine, substance abuse, drinking more than 1 or 2 alcoholic beverages per day, and tanning. All are stress producing.

*Avoid foods high in sugar, and simple carbs. Avoid processed foods. They all contribute to body-wide glycolization, oxidative stress, inflammation and stress.

*Greatly limit red meats, fried foods, saturated fats, high fructose corn syrup, and trans-fats. They high in "yang" or "hot energy which is very extreme for the body.

*Get proper nutrition based on whole foods. Eat enough B-vitamins and wide-spectrum and bio-available
antioxidants from a wide variety of colorful fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, and white meats.

*Take the right supplements, vitamins and herbs for your body.  If you do not know which are right for you schedule ONE appointment and find out or visit our natural product phamacy for recommendations on professional vitamins and herbs.

*Take on a lifestyle that says no to obesity and excess body fat.

Caffeine. No more than two cups of coffee per day because too much caffeine will have negative "stress and anxiety"  effects.

*Treat underlying illnesses....not feeling well is a great source of stress.

*Stress can be environmental too.  Avoid air, water, and ground toxic pollution.    Avoid heavy metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium.  If you think you may have high levels contact us for testing and a protocol for removal...Cost about $150.00
Watch those non-green household cleaners and disinfectants. Some are worse than germs. Avoid excito-toxins like MSG. Be wary of living near power lines, large generators, and microwave stations. Avoid environmental toxins like chlorine bleach, petrol fumes, insecticides, paints, flame retardant chemicals, industrial solvents, and pesticides. All contribute to environmental stress.

*Have a medical doctor diagnose hidden diseases like herpes, untreated stds, and auto-immune dysfunctions. These are stressful and inflammatory.

*Have regular dental checkups, get your teeth cleaned regularly, and get periodontal disease treated immediately.

*Treat major short-term infections and diseases like the flu.

*Recognize and treat underlying depression, anger, and anxiety--these cause much stress.  Acupuncture is a wonderful way to balance underlying distress.  Try one visit or commit to a package...

*Be aware of any medication that lowers your body's nutrients and antioxidants, and many do. This can be stressful.

*Avoid  toxins like chlorine bleach, petrol fumes, insecticides, paints, flame retardant chemicals, industrial solvents, pesticides, water pollution, and dry cleaning fluids.

To your good health

America's lack of scientific knowlege has long been an area of abuse by certain industries.

ALSO, People don't investigate what's really in the products they swallow. When something is sold as an herb, vitamin, superfood or supplement, they think it's automatically safe. And while the natural products industry has a truly remarkable safety record -- especially in contrast to pharmaceuticals -- it still suffers from a lot of hidden toxins that are routinely used throughout the industry.

According to Natural News a source of natural product information:

"After reviewing this list, you will probably throw out quite a few products in your refrigerator and pantry"
.
Some or all of this may come as a complete shock (see #1 and #2, below).

#1) Maltodextrin (from GMO corn)
Let's start out with the big one first: If you pick up a natural product and the ingredients list says "maltodextrin," chances are very high that the maltodextrin in the product is derived from genetically altered corn.

Virtually all the maltodextrin used throughout the natural products industry is genetically modified. Products that are certified USDA organic, however, are not using GMO maltodextrin.

The non-GMO, non-corn replacement for maltodextrin derived from GM corn is tapioca maltodextrin, and you'll find tapioca starch / maltodextrin in many certified organic, non-GMO products. Corn maltodextrin should be avoided unless it's certified USDA organic. Look for tapioca maltodextrin instead (or no maltodextrin at all).

#2) Vitamin C / acorbic acid (from GM corn)
Nearly all the "vitamin C" sold in vitamin stores across America right now is derived from GMO corn.  Our buffered Vitamin C is NOT!

This means that many of the supplements sold at Whole Foods, the vitamins sold on Amazon.com, the pills at your local pharmacy, and especially the products at the grocery store are (nearly) all routinely made with genetically modified vitamin C. It's typically called "ascorbic acid," and nearly 100% of the ascorbic acid used in the natural products industry is derived from GMOs.

Rest assured that all those cheap "vitamin C" pills sold at retail are also derived from genetically modified corn.

#3) Hexane-extracted soy and rice proteins
Nearly 100% of the "natural" soy proteins and rice proteins sold in the USA are extracted in China using a hexane extraction method. This is true for brown rice protein superfoods as well as the soy protein used in nearly all so-called "protein bars."

Here's a list of many of the protein bar brands currently using soy protein:
http://www.naturalnews.com/032862_soy_protein_food_bars.html

Hexane is a highly toxic chemical. It is not only extremely hazardous to the environment, there may also be trace amounts of hexane left remaining in the resulting protein products. My understanding is that hexane extraction is not allowed in certified organic proteins, so if you have a choice, go for certified organic.

Hexane extraction, by the way, is also used in the manufacture of textured vegetable protein (TVP). Read more about TVP here:
http://www.naturalnews.com/033728_TVP_textured_vegetable_protein.html

#4) High levels of Aluminum in detox products
Natural News helped expose high aluminum levels (over 1200ppm) in a popular detox liquid, causing the main U.S. distributor to issue a "recall" notice and provide over $1 million in refunds to customers.

The manufacturer of this product, Adya Clarity, intentionally and knowingly deceived consumers by mislabeling the product and not mentioning the 1200ppm of aluminum it contained. The FDA seized some of the products and ran its own lab tests, confirming the high aluminum level as well as identifying multiple labeling violations.

#5) Lead and arsenic in herbs from China
China has pollutants far above the levels in the US, yet many fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown in China and exported to North America for use in natural products.

High levels of lead and arsenic are routinely found in various food, supplement and herbal products from China. I'm not concerned about 1ppm or lower, by the way, of heavy metals like lead and mercury. Even aluminum isn't necessarily a problem when found organically grown inside foods that test at higher levels such as 150ppm. But when lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium get to high saturation levels (or are present in inorganic forms), it makes the products potentially a source of heavy metals poisoning for consumers.

Astonishingly, many of the small and medium-sized companies that import and retail products from China conduct no metals testing whatsoever. Our Chinese Herbs are from Good manufacturing plants equivalent to US standards. See our Chinese Herbs here:

#6) Inorganic minerals in cheap vitamins
Would you eat iron filings and call it nutrition? The majority of people don't know that most of the cheap vitamins sold today are made with non bioavailable minerals. The calcium found in low cost vitamins is often just ground-up seashells, and magnesium is often sold as cheap magnesium oxide which may be completely useless to your body's cells. If you're buying mineral supplements, you are your money unless the minerals are in the right form: Magnesium aspartate orotate or malate, for example.

When it comes to mineral supplements, you'll often find trace levels of scary things like barium and lead in liquid supplements, but these are typically at such low levels (ppb) that they are no real concern. But the No. 1 best source for all minerals is, not surprisingly, fresh plants. If you really want to boost your minerals, eat sprouted or organic plants. Your body utilizes "organic" minerals from plants, not inorganic minerals from rocks.

#7) Carrageenan?
The Cornucopia Institute, a highly-effective food activism group recently published a warning about carrageenan in foods. Cornucopia says carrageenan is linked to "gastrointestinal inflammation, including higher rates of colon cancer, in laboratory animals."

It goes on to report:

Given its effect on gastrointestinal inflammation, Cornucopia urges anyone suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms (irritable bowel syndrome/IBS, spastic colon, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhea, etc.) to consider completely eliminating carrageenan from the diet to determine if carrageenan was a factor in causing the symptoms.

#8) Acrylamides
Acrylamides are cancer-causing chemicals produced during the cooking of carbohydrates. Fried snack chips, for example, contain acrylamides. They don't have to be listed on labels because they are technically not "ingredients." They are chemicals produced during cooking or frying. Consuming acrylamides increases kidney cancer risk by 59 percent.

The FDA has published an extensive reference guide on acrylamide levels in foods, revealing that french fries have the highest levels of all. But they are also present in prune juice and even breakfast cereals.

A bag of organic snack chips can have just as many acrylamides as a bag of conventional snack chips. This is why fried snack chips should be eaten only sparingly, or never at all.

Interestingly, it turns out that vitamin C blocks acrylamides from causing damage to your body. But if your vitamin C is from a GMO source (see above), you may want to rethink that strategy. Natural citrus juice, rose hips or even camu camu berry powder is a much better choice of natural, full-spectrum vitamin C.

If you eat fried foods of any kind, make sure you ingest a lot of vitamin C, astaxanthin and chlorella before and after your meal or snack.

#9) Hidden MSG / yeast extract
Hidden MSG is a huge issue across the natural products industry. Pick up almost any veggie burger, and you'll find it's made with yeast extract, a hidden form of MSG (monosodium glutamate).

Yeast extract is unbelievably prevalent in the food industry because it looks nicer on the label than "MSG." Most people are trained to avoid MSG, but yeast extract slips by, so food manufacturers put it into canned soups, dip mixes, snack chips, microwave dinners and especially in vegetarian products, many of which are so loaded with chemicals and additives that I won't dare touch them. Just because a food says "vegetarian" doesn't mean it's healthy.

Hidden MSG is also labeled as "autolyzed yeast extract" or "torula yeast" or even "hydrolyzed vegetable protein."

#10) Fluoride in green tea
Green tea is famous for being contaminated with high levels of fluoride. This is frustrating, because green tea is phenomenally good for your health. It has been proven to lower "bad" cholesterol levels, and it may even help prevent cancer and neurological disorders. It's probably one of the healthiest beverages you can ever drink.

The tea plant that produces green tea just happens to uptake a huge amount of fluoride from the soils. So when there's fluoride present in those soils, the green tea will have a surprisingly high concentration, sometimes as much as 25ppm.

An interesting article on this issue is found at Toxipedia.org:
http://toxipedia.org/display/toxipedia/Fluoride+Content+in+Tea

While this fluoride in green tea might not be a health hazard all by itself, the governments of the world seem insistent on pumping even more synthetic, chemical fluoride into the water supplies, thereby creating a high risk for fluorosis. Adding green tea to the fluoride consumption you might experience from tap water is a recipe for disaster: brittle bones, discoloration of teeth and even cancer.

So once again, buyer beware and remember you ALWAYS get what you pay for.   I for my part am proud of my products their manufacturers and the rigorous testing they undergo.  I am thrilled to be able to offer these products to you.

Several NEW studies have confirmed it!

Meditation Leads to Greater Pain Relief Than Morphine

Meditation has been part of the human experience for thousands of years!   The earliest reports of meditation practice date back to about 1500 BCE in India, and became part of Western practice during the Roman Empire.  When neuroscientists have studied meditation, they've discovered some interesting ways in which it affects the physical structure of the brain.  These include effects that can be seen in autonomic functions and neurotransmitters as well as changes in blood flow and brain wave activity.

Meditation has been extensively studied for its effects of stress reduction and other clinical functions, and there have been several preliminary studies in its potential as a pain relief treatment.  Now researchers at Wake Forest have published a study measuring the physical effects of meditation on pain — and it turns out it might be more effective than opiates.

“This is the first study to show that only a little over an hour of meditation training can dramatically reduce both the experience of pain and pain-related brain activation,” said Fadel Zeidan, Ph.D., lead author of the study and post-doctoral research fellow at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

“We found a big effect – about a 40 percent reduction in pain intensity and a 57 percent reduction in pain unpleasantness. Meditation produced a greater reduction in pain than even morphine or other pain-relieving drugs, which typically reduce pain ratings by about 25 percent.”

For the study, 15 healthy volunteers who had never meditated attended four, 20-minute classes to learn a meditation technique known as focused attention. Focused attention is a form of mindfulness meditation where people are taught to attend to the breath and let go of distracting thoughts and emotions.

Both before and after meditation training, study participants' brain activity was examined using a special type of imaging — arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance imaging (ASL MRI) — that captures longer duration brain processes, such as meditation, better than a standard MRI scan of brain function. During these scans, a pain-inducing heat device was placed on the participants' right legs. This device heated a small area of their skin to 120° Fahrenheit, a temperature that most people find painful, over a 5-minute period.

The scans taken after meditation training showed that every participant's pain ratings were reduced, with decreases ranging from 11 to 93 percent, Zeidan said.

I love this kind of research.  I don't think that progess be defined as genetic engineering, pharmaceuticals,  robots, and flying cars.  I'm excited at the myriad means in which ancient techniques for a variety of things are being revived in a modern context and given the due scientific investigation and validation they deserve.  I think there's a rich area for research into improving people's lives by studying the practices of our ancestors and refining those practices with some of the modern tools at our disposal.

What are you eating for dinner right NOW?

If you are really interested in changing your diet for the better, it is best to start simply instead of making radical changes all at once. I recommend doing one of these steps every two to four weeks. Following are some simple steps for improving your diet and health.

Step 1: Pay attention in the grocery store: Start reading labels! Become familiar with what you are eating. Notice that all the fresh foods are on the outside aisles and all the processed foods are on the inside aisles. Eventually, most of your cart will be filled from the outside aisles, which makes shopping so much easier!  I have not even been in those aisles....EVER.

Step 2: Eliminate everything in your diet that has hydrogenated fats in any form. Partially hydrogenated is just as bad as fully hydrogenated.

Step 3: Eliminate everything in your diet that has corn syrup in it, high fructose or otherwise be careful with other syrups and sugar replacers even if " natural".

Step 4: Eliminate everything in your diet that has artificial sweeteners except for natural stevia.

Step 5: Eliminate every grain in your diet that is not a whole grain. Don't be fooled by multi-grains that aren't whole grains. Who cares if its 10 different grains if they are all stripped of their nutrients? Labels will say 100% WHOLE blah...

Step 6: Eliminate white sugar from your diet Avoid foods with contents ending in ose in the first four ingredients.

Step 7: Eliminate low-fat and no-fat versions of your favorite foods from your diet. (yes, that's right!!! Your body will crave less fat since it is getting more of the right fats and you will want less, you'll also ingest far less sugar. )

Step 8: Eat as much produce as you can that is grown in your area when it is in season. Buy organic as much as possible.

Step 9: Rotate your foods. Don't eat the same food more than 3 times in one week. (This is particularly hard to do with breakfast foods.)  Try new WHOLE foods frequently.

Step 10: Don't eat anything with ingredients that your great-grandmother wouldn't have recognized if is not a whole food strictly avoid.

While you are trying to improve your diet it is very important to get all your nutrients. Visit our vitamin aisle of our natural pharmacy for FREE shipping, and top professional products at amazing prices!

Gray Hair

Some people consider gray hair as something that makes them looked distinguished; for others, it's a reminder that they're getting older.Scientists have put a lot of effort into investigating the cause of gray hair, and they believe they've gotten to the root of the problem. Hair gets its color from a pigment called melanin, which is produced by melanocyte cells in the hair follicles. Researchers have discovered that melanocytes endure cumulative damage over the years, which eventually leaves them unable to produce melanin. Studies have cited DNA damage and a buildup of hydrogen peroxide in the follicles as possible causes of this disruption in melanin production. Without melanin, the new hair that grows in has no pigment, which makes it appear gray, white, or silver.

Some people start to go gray young -- as early as their teens. When graying begins usually is determined by genes, so if your mother or father became gray early, you may too. He shou wu  one of several chinese herbs can be helpful in restoring color to grayed hair.

Hair Loss

Normally, hair goes through a regular growth cycle. During the anagen phase, which lasts three to four years, the hair grows. During the telogen phase, which lasts about three months, the hair rests. At the end of the telogen phase, the hair falls out and is replaced by new hair.

The average person loses about 100 hairs each day. Hair loss also can have other causes, including drugs or disease.

As they age, men tend to lose the hair on top of their head, which eventually leaves a horseshoe-shaped ring of hair around the sides. This type of hair loss is called male-pattern baldness. It's caused by genes (from both parents -- the idea that men take after their mother's father is a myth) and it's fueled by the male hormone, testosterone. In female-pattern baldness, the hair loss is different -- it thins throughout the top of the scalp, leaving the hair in front intact.

A number of disorders can cause the hair to fall out. People who have an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata lose hair on their scalp, as well as on other parts of their body. Other health conditions that can cause excess hair loss include:

  • Medications such as antidepressants, retinoids, NSAIDs, blood thinners, birth control and other hormonal treatments, high blood pressure pills medications, chemotherapy, and radiation.
  • Severe infections
  • Major surgery
  • Overactive or underactive thyroid
  • Other hormonal problems
  • Severe stress
  • Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus
  • Fungal and yeast infections of the scalp
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Compulsive hair pulling called trichotillomania

Hair lost to male-pattern and female-pattern baldness won't grow back on its own, but acupuncture and herbs can be extremely helpful. See my article about stopping hair loss in its tracks for more information.

Hair Damage

Blow-drying, straightening, highlighting, and perming regularly can wreak havoc on hair, leaving it brittle, broken, and unmanageable. Split ends and dry hair are just two casualties of over zealous styling.

Excessive styling and heat can cause split ends, which occur when the protective outermost layer of hair (the cuticle) is damaged and peels back. Some treatments for split ends include:

  • Brush gently with a soft, flexible hairbrush; don't overbrush.
  • Avoid towel-drying. If you do dry your hair with a towel, rub it gently.
  • Use a conditioner, and leave on a deep conditioner about once a week.

Hair needs moisture and a certain amount of oil to keep it looking healthy. A number of things can dry out hair, including:

  • Washing it too often
  • Using a harsh shampoo
  • Excessive blow-drying or use of a curling iron or straightening iron
  • Exposure to sun, wind, and dry air
  • Perms and dyes
  • Nutritional Deficiencies
  • Medications
  • Chronic inflammation

To keep the moisture in your hair, try these tips:

  • Don't wash your hair every day unless you have a scalp condition such as dandruff which needs daily shampooing for control. When you do wash your hair, use a gentle shampoo that's designed to infuse moisture into dry hair. Also, use a conditioner daily.
  • Limit blow-drying and use of hot irons, hot rollers, or curling irons.
  • Increase the time between hair treatments, such as dyes and perms.
  • Wear a hat on cold, windy days and put on a bathing cap when swimming.

Greasy Hair

The scalp contains a natural oil called sebum, which helps keep the skin, scalp and hair lubricated. Sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands. Sometimes these glands work overtime and produce too much oil, leading to a greasy scalp. Chronic inflammation and seborrheic dermatitis also can cause hair to appear greasy. Greasy hair can look dull, limp, and lifeless, and it may be more difficult to manage. To treat greasy hair, try washing with a gentle shampoo that is specially formulated to control sebum.
