Cranberry juice fights UTI's-folk medicine again proved correct by the Polytechnic Institute. The Polyanthocyanadins reduce the ability of Ecoli by far the most common pathogen causing urinary tract infections from adhering to the cells of the urinary tract.

Chorella-a one-celled green food that is known as "pond scum" by detractors is even  showing MORE promise as a source of essential nutrients, a great detoxifier, and a stimulator of cancer patients low immune systems, in a recent Japanese study.  We have an excellent and reasonably priced product in the Clinic.

FISH as a Brain Booster!-another old folk remedy which has tons of science behind it now getting press as a potential preventative of senile dementia.  With many people living well into their 90's, this University of Pittsburgh study which lasted a decade showed a strong correlation between fish consumption and lessend risk of dementia in the elderly. Ward off Strokes-Oxidative stress leads to chronic inflammation which damages blood vessels and causes stiffening of the arteries which greatly increases stroke risk.  Antioxidant supplements which include vitamins such as ACE and selenium as well as compounds such as anthocyanidins and flavonoids reduce this risks to a statisically significant degree according to a recent university study.  This is important news for people with hypertension-high blood pressure.

Vitamin D Deficiency & Type II DIABETES Link-

A 411 person trial by Southwest Medical Center has demonstrated a link between blood levels of vitamin D and blood sugars, insulin and body mass index as well as blood pressure in these subjects.

Still, links do not prove cause and effect and it appears to me that vitamin D deficience is so widespread it may correlate with just about anything.

IS Canola Oil dangerous to your health?

A new internet hoax is about that is frightening some of my clients and it pertains to the idea that canola oil is poisonous since it is derived from rapeseed oil which is toxic. I'd like to reassure everyone with the facts: US and Canadian farmers grow genetically engineered rapeseed and manufacturers use its oil (canola) in thousands of processed foods, with the blessings of Canadian and US government watchdog agencies. The canola supporting websites say that canola is safe to use. They admit it was developed from the rapeseed, but insist that through genetic engineering it is no longer rapeseed, but 'canola' instead."   While I am in no way a fan of GMO, I do not believe there is any danger here whatsoever.
