--What you should be taking is a WHOLE slew of mistakes, I cannot cover here today. Most people flit from study to study with no real clue as to what is appropriate for them, and what their body requires and thrives on. This is a complex area and should be based on many factors such as genetics, biochemistry, sex, diet, age and even more.... Believe me, answers to those questions is best left to a trained, accomplished nutritional physician such as myself. That being said there are other pedestrian issues and common mistakes people make. Today I'll cover but a few!
.
- Vitamins are coenzymes and cofactors for MANY things going on so are best taken with food. Why? Because A. they are synergists and need food to work properly and B. this will ensure you don't wreck your stomach. Some people guts are more sensitive than others.
- Fat soluble nutrients are best taken with a meal that contains fat. These include vitamins A, D, E, and K. It also includes supplements like fish oils, CoQ-10 and even herbs like curcumin and rosemary. Like absorbs like, so without fat, you won't get absorption.
- Certain supplements are better absorbed on an empty stomach. This includes amino acids such as popular tryptophan and carnitine. Amino acids, compete for absorption so should be taken singularly.
- Meds should not be taken at the same time as your supplements, as they may often have a bad effect on drug activity. Minerals can bind many medications. Supplements including fiber and aloe will also interfere with the absorption of your meds. Allow at least two hours between the timing of your meds and your supplements. And if you're really not sure, consult with your nutrition expert or pharmacist. Better safe than sorry! Supplement Mistake 2: Buying non BIO- available brands and products:
Because you're faced with so many options at the store, you may not think twice about picking a particular formula. I hope you change your mind on this because it matters, A LOT! You get what you pay for and how.
What you MUST pay attention to when supplement shopping, is purchasing a high quality nutrient that your body can actually USE.
Storing Them WRONG:
Storing your supplements in the wrong place or under bad conditions will cause them to oxidize and lose potency quickly.
High temperatures are a problem, as they can interfere with the delicate structure of a nutrient and cause them to disintegrate. Humidity will have a similar impact.
So, your supplements should be stored in a cool, dry place. Buy great products from authorized distributors that make it their business to store them properly.
