Cancer Treatment-Flaxseeds, and flaxseed oil show promise in cancer treatment by slowing tumor growth. In a new study, men with prostate cancer consumed thirty grams of flaxseed a day for thirty days, this group was compared to a control group. Men in the flaxseed group had the slowest rate of tumor growth as compared to the control group.
Green Tea and Cancer Prevention-Three new studies further show that green tea can reduce the risk of some cancers. In the first study, researchers analyzed green tea consumption among 30,000 men and women in Japan. The researchers noted that women who consumed green tea had a 70% reduction in risk of oral cancers. In another study:, researchers administered a green tea supplement containing a standardized dosage of EGCG, the antioxidant thought to be responsible for the beneficial properties of green tea. Results showed that green tea inhibited the effects of the beginning stages of intestinal cancers by inhibiting environmental carcinogens. In a third study, investigators found that green tea was ineffective in reversing larger later stage tumors, but it did significantly reduce the formation of new tumors. (Carcinogeneisis 2007).
France bans genetically modified crops- The French have announced a ban on the planting of genetically modified crops until the safety of the crops can be further established. Commerical cultivation of genetically modified pesticide GMO's has been suspended by the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy who stated to err on the side of caution and safety until further assessment is done.
