Cancer Screening Worthless
campaigns promoting cancer screening often do more harm than good according to cancer experts. Often screening results in false positives creating unecessary, painful and traumatic interventions such as biopsies. According to the experts, out of five possible outcomes, four of them were negative. The committee also moved mammography to age 50 in women. In the absence of very specific risk factors, or symptoms, no evidence currently exists to support the notion that cancer screening lessens death rates.
Appendix is NOT expendable-in a landmark study scientists have learned that the lowly appendix an organ thought to have no real function in mordern times does in fact play a role in immunity, and in the health of the gastrointestinal tract by keeping beneficial flora balanced. The appendix may play a role in maintaining symbiotic gut bacteria which work in concert with other intestinal bacteria to break down fiber and synthesize vitamins.
Whole Foods to market "non-GMO" foods
Whole Foods has announced plans to certify that all of its store brand products are free of any genetically modified substances. All of its items are to be certified by a third party verification process. This product verification program provides a GMO-free seal to any products that have tested free of gentically modified substances. Since no government entity exists to provide this information Whole Foods has set this process in motion.
Artificial Sweeteners bad news -
Nephrology , (kidney) experts presented studies at their annual meeting linking moderate use of diet soft drinks with decrease in kidney function. Their findings now indicate that sweeteners such as aspartame or sucrolose are responsible for rapid declines in the GFR, glomerular filtration rates in the kidneys of those regularly imbibing the artificial sweeteners.

safer alternatives include: molasses, agave nectar, raw honey and stevia. Alternatives to soft drinks are: carbonated waters, juice flavored waters and stevia flavored sodas.

Google and Pharma team Up!
Internet giants Google and Yahoo have teamed up with big pharma in asking for lenience so the companies can advertise more drugs online. Current FDA legislation requires that any mention of a drug's benfits must also reveal its risks. Google & Yahoo are attempting to get around this by only providing links that would contain the health risk information.

ZETIA no match for niacin!
A lowly B vitamin far more effective in reducing cholesterol than the much touted Zetia. Niacin also had a superior action upon the artery walls.
